CamDiv voice chat · mic only
CamDiv voice chat keeps both cameras dark and both microphones on. It is the easiest way to have a real conversation with someone new while you get on with your evening.

01
a voice says a lot
Voice chat with strangers sits in a sweet spot. You hear laughter, hesitation and accents, all the things text flattens out, but nobody sees your face, your messy desk or the fact that you are lying on the floor. It is the mode people pick when they want company without an audience.
On CamDiv you choose voice on the start screen before you press start. Your browser asks for microphone access the first time, and then a single stranger joins the call. Their camera stays off too. It is just two voices and whatever the two of you decide to talk about.
02
you do not have to sit still
Because nobody is looking at you, voice chat works while your hands and eyes are busy. Plenty of CamDiv members use it on an evening walk, while cooking or folding laundry, or on nights when they feel social but not presentable. It is also kinder on slow connections than video.
Voice is a good place for language practice too. Hearing how someone actually pronounces things teaches more than reading, and both of you can slow down without the pressure of a camera pointed at you.
03
the same small card as every match
Even with cameras off, a voice match comes with a card naming the other person, their age, country and language. That makes the opener easy: ask how late it is where they are, or what people in their city do on a Saturday night.
Treat voice the way you would treat any call with a stranger. A voice can be recorded just like video, so keep your full name, address and passwords out of the conversation. The safety habits page lists the few rules that prevent most problems.
04
pick a different door any time
When a voice chat goes well enough that you are curious about the face behind it, the easiest path is to pick video chat on the start screen before your next match, or to sign in, follow each other and request a private call. If you would rather go quieter, text chat keeps the microphone off as well and adds a translate button to messages.
There is no penalty for moving around. A common path: type first, switch to voice once relaxed, and save the camera for later that night.
Leaving is fineTap next whenever a voice call stops working for you. The other person is not told why, and CamDiv simply connects you with someone new.
